Abstract

Augusto Coello del Águila narra la historia de Ngutapa. Ngutapa quería tener una mujer y, con la ayuda de su madre, obligaron a Mapana a acompañar a Ngutapa a la cacería aunque ella no quería. En una de las salidas, Ngutapa la sorprendió y la amarró, dejándola sufrir hasta que Kou llegó en su ayuda, la curó y vivió con ella, de cuya unión nacieron Yoi e Ipi. Más adelante, Mapana, transformada en avispa, picó las rodillas de Ngutapa como venganza y de ellos salieron los hermanos Yoi, Ipi y sus dos hermanas. Mapana, que quería vengarse aún más de Ngutapa, envió un tigre que devoró a Ngutapa. Sus hijos, a través de la abuela, descubrieron la verdad y, con ayuda del cabello de sus hermanas, achicaron el mundo y dieron muerte al tigre que había acabado con su padre. Al abrir el tigre, hallaron la carne de Ngutapa. La llevaron en bulto y la amarraron en la cocina, pero la carne se regó y se transformó en los blancos (gringos).

The elder Augusto Coello del Águila narrates the story of Ngutapa. Ngutapa wanted to have a wife, and with the mother’s help, they forced Mapana to accompany him on a hunt even though she did not want to. On one of these outings, Ngutapa caught her and tied her up, leaving her to suffer until Kou came to her aid, healed her, and lived with her, from whose union Yoi and Ipi were born. Later, Mapana, transformed into a wasp, stung Ngutapa’s knees in revenge, from which Yoi, Ipi, and their two sisters came out of his knees. Mapana, seeking further revenge, sent a tiger that devoured Ngutapa. His children, guided by their grandmother, discovered the truth and, with the help of their sisters’ hair, shrank the world and killed the tiger that had destroyed their father. When they opened the tiger, they found Ngutapa’s flesh. They carried it in a bundle and tied it in the kitchen, but the flesh spread and transformed into the white people (gringos).
