Abstract

El abuelo Teobaldo narra la historia de un hombre, Putanükü, que mató a su esposa por regar la brea que él preparaba para sus flechas. Tras el asesinato, huyó con su hijo. Días después, los hermanos de la mujer fueron a visitarlos, pero al encontrar la casa vacía, comenzaron a buscar. Guiados por el zumbido de moscas, hallaron el cuerpo podrido de su hermana enterrado. Juraron venganza y comenzaron la búsqueda del cuñado, preguntando a los animales hasta que unas hormigas les dijeron que estaba preparando la Pelazón de su hijo. Entonces fueron hasta allí y, antes del día de la Pelazón, se disfrazaban de distintos animales y bailaban alrededor de la maloca para ser elegidos como dueños de la fiesta, pero Putanükü rechazaba cada uno. Finalmente Putanüküu mencionó que quería al Yoruma y, así, el día de la Pelazón, los hermanos hicieron máscaras de Yoruma. Putanükü estaba feliz y bailaron. Pero en un momento en que Putanükü estaba distraído, uno de ellos lo atravesó con una flecha junto con su hijo, y ambos murieron.

The elder Teobaldo narrates the story of a man, Putanükü, who killed his wife for spilling the pitch he was preparing for his arrows. After the murder, he fled with his son. Days later, the woman’s brothers went to visit them, but upon finding the house empty, they began to search. Guided by the buzzing of flies, they found their sister’s rotten body buried. They swore revenge and began to hunt for their brother-in-law, asking the animals, until some ants told them that he was preparing his son’s Pelazón. They went there, and before the day of the Pelazón, they disguised themselves as different animals and danced around the maloca to be chosen as owners of the ceremony, but Putanükü rejected each one. Finally, Putanükü mentioned that he wanted Yoruma, and so, on the day of the Pelazón, the brothers made Yoruma masks. Putanükü was happy and they danced. But at a moment when Putanükü was distracted, one of them pierced him with an arrow along with his son, and both died.
