Abstract

Hugo Armando Camacho introduce la narración. Enseguida, Jorge Manduca narra la historia de Yoi e Ipi. Cuenta que, antiguamente, las personas recibían su nazón tomando un caldo: cada uno decía el nombre de un animal y ese nombre se convertía en su clan. Yoi organizó a la gente, les enseñó la pelazón y fue llevando y ubicando a cada comunidad en distintas partes del mundo. Un día, un ukae mató a la esposa de Yoi haciéndose pasar por ella, y Yoi descubrió el engaño y quemó a todos los ukae disfrazados que habían participado. Más tarde, ese ukae también mató a Ipi, pero Yoi lo siguió, envenenó a los animales que se estaban comiendo a su hermano, recuperó sus pedazos y logró revivirlo. Por eso ciertos ríos aún se consideran peligrosos, se mantienen las trampas que enseñó Yoi y existen los zancudos, que aparecieron cuando Ipi desobedeció y abrió el envoltorio donde estaban partes del ukae.

He explains that, in ancient times, people received their nazón by drinking a special broth: each person spoke the name of an animal, and that name became their clan. Yoi organized the people, distributed those nazón, taught the pelazón ritual, and guided each community to different parts of the world. One day, an ukae killed Yoi’s wife by pretending to be her, and Yoi discovered the deception and burned all the disguised ukae involved. Later, that same ukae also killed Ipi, but Yoi tracked it, poisoned the animals that were eating his brother, recovered his remains, and managed to bring him back to life. For this reason, certain rivers are still considered dangerous, the traps Yoi taught are still used, and mosquitoes exist—because they appeared when Ipi disobeyed and opened the bundle containing pieces of the ukae.
